WHAT IS LETTERPRESS?
With this form of printing, each color is printed separately using a custom printing plate.
With this form of printing, each color is printed separately using a custom printing plate.
A printing machine presses the inked plate into the paper leaving an impression with the printed image and/or text.
This means you can feel an indentation in the paper if you run your fingers over the design; it's both visual and tactile.
To achieve multiple colors on a printed piece, we run the paper through the press multiple times, changing the plates and ink each time. We're very fond of the results!
Most printed materials are created using offset or digital printing. The printer contains ink or toner in different colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black), and the printing process works by laying down combinations of ink in specified positions. Just like when you print at home, the entire process works in one pass through the machine.
Each type of printing has its own, useful purpose! Both offset and digital printing result in a smooth finish, whereas letterpress leaves a beautiful impression, giving the piece a handmade touch.
